Re-posting this in here. Didn't see this forum.

Looking for some advice/opinions. My 71 Chevelle is currently being back-halfed in order to fit 21.5x33 Mickey Thompson Sportman pro bias ply street tires. But I also notice they offer a radial in the same size. I currently (before the back half job) run BFG drag radials for the street with radials on the front which work ok and drive nice.

I guess the question is will the bias ply hook better and sacrifice some stability or with the radials being that big will it really matter as they should hook just as well if I hammer it. (obviously have to also have bias on the front with bias on the back)

I don't necessarily need tires this big, but doing it for the look and for when I upgrade my engine to a 572 or bigger later.

The car will be mostly street duty and some street legal drags at the strip so I am torn between if the radials will hook as well or if the difference in smooth driving is really that big of a deal.

Do most big tire pro street car guys go with the bias ply?

I would do your home work on the radail tire. I have 33 by 18 1/2 Mt sportsman right now and I was looking at there radail sr I think thats the one,, anyways they will be wider on the rim for some reason, even if they are the same size as the my MT, they will rub the inner wheel well on my car. too bad becaues they look real nice.

Hoosier also makes a radial in the large sizes. One guy I talked to at a show that had them on his pro street truck said they rode and handled much better than the MT sportsman tires. I don't know if they are wider on the rims but I'm thinking of running them on my truck when I get it done.

I imagine the radials would drive better. I just wonder if they hook as well.

I don't think either tire is really going to hook well. But for ride definitely the radials. The sportsman pro has the wrinkle wall to it, but was never really a good race tire.

If your concerned with hooking up you car you'll be needing a slick. The radials "hook" better than the bias M/T's but neither will get you down the track as well as a slick.

I will have a different set of rims and slicks for the track. But these for the street should be good from many I have talked to. I just don't want them to spin all over the place if I have to get a little heavy on the gas all of a sudden ;)
