whats up guys,

need some opinion and advice ok i found a guy sellin a 454 w trans for 300 bucks, he says its in his yard from a guy that rented the space from him the guy goes awall so he wants to get rid of it, ok so he tells me he thinks its from a 81 surburban? ok lets say its from a 81 surburban what im i lookin at a low hp motor not worth it or a low hp motor with a cam, and other minor mods decent power motor, wut type of power?

If the block isn't cracked, snap it up. That's a steal. If it's out of an 81 Suburban, it likely is a high nickel-content block (that's good) cast crank, and heavy duty 'thumb' rods. Probably undesirable peanut port heads, but for 300 bucks, it's a good foundation. If the tranny is an automatic, it's probably a TH400 with a bolt-on yoke on the output shaft.

I agree, a 454 with a transmission for $300, you better grab it while you can. with some fairly simple mods., you can turn that into a 400 HP or more engine easily.
