: 402 4-spd 4-DOOR?!?!
novadude Feb 23rd, 09, 1:06 PM Saw this car on another forum, and had to share. Supposedly a factory '72 Malibu 400 4-spd 4-door hardtop. Looks like it has the 14x6 rallys, sport wheel, and power windows too. Really neat car.

Chevelle_Nut Feb 23rd, 09, 4:57 PM Imagine the look on some rustang owner when a 4 door Chevelle blows his 2 doors off. :D

Bryan59EC Feb 24th, 09, 8:04 AM in 1961, the Impala SS could also be had in a 4-dr.
prefectca Feb 24th, 09, 10:35 AM Too bad I live in rust land. When I was a kid in the 70's, a store owner had a 66 Dodge coronet four door with a 383 and a four speed. A friend boarded with him and borrowed the car once in a while to cruise around. He certainly woke a lot of guys up when he was teased about having "his dad's car". It would really fly for a big car. There were a lot of muscle cars here too. In my area I remember,
1965 Malibu four door 327 four speed ( stripped for parts many years ago)
1968 SS396 four gear green black vinyl/black interior(rusty bought buy a barts dealer in the late 90's and stripped)
1967 SS396 three speed standard marina blue blue interior(car still here rusty)
1967 SS396 powerglide same blue as above
1971 SS454 auto Elcamino, green green interior (car was still here two years ago but rotten stripped for parts, still original owner)
1972 454 auto Monte Carlo
1972 Road Runner 440 six pack four speed (still here but in a barn all smashed up from a high speed collision)
Hemi Roadrunner (sold about four years ago to be restored, needed 1/4 panels $55K)
There are probably others if I think about it. These are cars that were owned by people I know or knew back then.

In talking with Dale Lidstone of the late Canadian Classics magazine, he told me of a car he had. It was a 1968 Canadian Pontiac Strato Chief (basically a Chevy Biscayne) 4-door witha factory 396, 4-speed & 3.31 Positraction rear. It was bought cheap from the used car lot at an AMC dealer in the mid to late 1970s. Unfortunately the car was subsequently thrashed, then broken for the drivetrain and scrapped.
I like that '72 Sport Sedan found on the link. Seeing as it had a 402 it could have also been ordered with F41. That is the sort of car that gets stripped for the drivetrain, but I think the whole package as it was ordered is a cool concept. My daily driver is a wagon, after having lived with a coupe for 14 years before that. A 4-door Chevelle would have been a very practical choice, and the last of the A-body true hardtops at that.
I love the car that Tom Parsons (DZAUTO) ordered new with some help from the zone rep. It was a '72 Concours Estate wagon, 402 4-speed, cowl induction and woodgrain siding. I don't think Tom wants to rehash the story about it since it was a sad tale and became the neglected pawn in a spiteful divorce. I believe somebody on this site bought the stripped remaining shell but I don't know how likely it is that it will see the road again. Do some searching and you will find the whole story behind it here at T.C.

DougA Mar 2nd, 09, 8:56 AM A local guy here,on the nagging of his wife, ordered new and drove for many years a 1968 Chevelle wagon with an L-79 engine and 4 speed. He told me the salesman kept saying "are you sure you want to order this?" He drove it for many years till the body rusted off it,sold it and kept the drivetrain, which he still has in a second generation Corvette.
PaPa Johns 77 Mar 2nd, 09, 10:48 AM Quite a few 4 door 4 speed cars seem to have been produced over the years by most of the Big 3.
I had a 66 Dodge Polara with a 440 4 speed. The protecto plate said Sauk Co. Sheriff Dept.(Wi.) Bought it in 1974 off the back of a dealers lot for 150.00!
A friend of mine had a car his dad bought new. 1965 Impala 4dr hardtop 396 4 speed!
At shows have seen a 1970 Buick Skylark 4dr 4 speed, a 1964 Ford Galaxie XL 4dr 4 speed and a Pontiac Tempest 4dr 4 speed. All factory!:)
Like the Impala his dad ordered the 4 speed for towing a camper and boat!
The guy with the 64 Galaxie said he ordered it that way because he wanted a standard shift but not on the column! He was a retired trucker!
I imagine similar reasons were for others ordered that way.:)
newmexguy Mar 2nd, 09, 2:05 PM saw two weird manual trans cars recently, both are in an Albuquerque yard
1970 ford torino GT-ordered with 302 2v and three on the tree, all appearance and yawn? for go.
1975 plymouth fury 2 dr hdtp no options 318 with three on the tree
both cars very solid underneath both under $1000 each
