I started on a restoration project for my car only to discover I need a new frame as it appears rust beyond reasonable repair. Obviously only boxed convertible frames will fit, but will other makes and model A-bodies interchange? At a stand still now.

My understanding on this is that other A-Body frame will fit. Olds and Buick and Pontiac. There is an issue with the Pontiac frames that is problematic but can be worked around.

Apparently the Pontiac frames are a little longer behind the rear wheels than the other A-Body cars are. I recall from somewhere that Pontiac lengthened the frame a little to support longer rear quarters. Somewhat the same pocess was enployed on the Monte Carlo in the front to accomodate the longer nose. If I am correct ...and certainly someone will chime in here if I am not....you can shorten the Pontiac frame by "sectioning" out the added length.

In summary the frames are all the same forward of the rear axle, Buick and Olds frames are bolt ins and the Pontiac can be made to work with minor welding intervention.

If you can't find the correct vert frame, it's pretty easy to shorten an elky frame. They are boxed just like the vert frames.

You don't have your location posted, so no telling if your close to the South where frames are in better shape. I did use a 66 Elky frame under my 64 ragtop, you have to cut the rear part of the frame off and reweld the C section back on, measure your existing frame to get the length correct. Good luck with your hunt.
