: Legendary Interior Has Arrived!
Rucumn Feb 23rd, 09, 11:05 AM I finally received my Legendary interior that I purchased during the 25% off sale! I thought I would share some pictures before I begin the install, but first a few comments about my Legendary experience so far.
First, I love the 25% off sale and because of my total order my shipping was next to nothing (~$30). I bought bucket seat covers, front door panels and rear panels for my 70 SS and my 67 chevelle. I placed my order on January 2nd and received it on February 21st. I was quoted 4-6 weeks, but I figured it would be longer due to the volume of orders that this sale probably generated. I did call a few times for updates and I received great service and follow up calls! Now that I have the product, I can't wait to get it installed because it is very high quality, especially compared to the junk that I had installed 10 years ago. See for yourself.
Here is my old covers and door panel - poor quality!

tunes Feb 23rd, 09, 2:57 PM Those do look nice. Show us some more pictures when you get everything installed.
Jim Mac Feb 23rd, 09, 3:25 PM wouldnt want to sell me your junk seat covers would you?
Those new ones look great!
Im about to pull the trigger and buy a set of covers for my elcamino. I missed the 25% off sale, may just go for the PUI covers. Car is probably never getting paint, Just looking for something a little better than the worn "custom" covers on the buckets now. jim
Rucumn Feb 23rd, 09, 6:21 PM I will update with pictures as I start the install!
Jim, I sent you a PM about the old covers.
BigBlockBeaumont Feb 23rd, 09, 8:16 PM You really see the difference in the fullness of the pleats!! I have the same crappy repro covers in my car now.
zeke67 Feb 23rd, 09, 9:12 PM Can you give comparative description of the two?
I'm also interested in hearing about your 67 covers. The upholstery in my 67 is now 20 years old and due for a freshening in the next few years. All the talk about Legendary has me interested in going that route
Rucumn Feb 24th, 09, 12:21 AM Zeke, I will try to post pictures of my 67 covers in this post tomorrow or the next. I have another set of 67 seats that I will compare to which I believe have PUI covers on them.
I will try to give a detailed description of both side by side also. I know how much I debated the few extra dollars to buy the Legendary stuff, but the great sale hooked me and pulled me in. I can't complain. I would even pay full price for them now that I have seen them in person.
davis95 Feb 24th, 09, 12:27 AM It looks like the Legendary pieces come complete with medallions. I may look at these for my 66.
zeke67 Feb 24th, 09, 12:31 AM Thanks, no hurry.
When I did mine (20 yrs ago) I was just happy to have anything. But I'd spend the dough today to have something better.
Jim Mac Feb 24th, 09, 1:09 AM hugh, reply sent. jim
craigs66 Feb 24th, 09, 7:22 AM Davis95,
I agree that the legendary seat covers do look good. I investigated for my 66, but backed away when I learned that they didn't offer door/ rear panels to match.

Actually, the Legendary pieces do not come with the medallions. At least mine didn't. I got 'em a couple weeks ago. They do look good, medallions or not.

They are working on them - last I heard they were having trouble getting the mylar strip right. I'm gonna get my door panels from Legendary, when they become available.
Rucumn Feb 24th, 09, 6:16 PM Mine did not come with the medallions. I had the door panel emblems on hand and had to buy the seat cover emblems. I don't think any of the vendor's offer seat covers with the medallions already on them, unless you ask for them and pay for it.
My old door panels did come with medallions installed, but the Legendary cover's do not.
arohed Feb 24th, 09, 7:56 PM I got a price from Legendary and just couldn't pull the trigger. Although their stuff is awesome. I ended up getting PUI from Columbia Parts. They had a listing on Ebay that said to call them for better pricing. It saved me $60..:beers:
lblanks Feb 28th, 09, 9:14 PM Sure wish Legendary would get the 65 Chevelle stuff done. Bought my door panels from PUI and got the Gold edition. They're great, but I won't buy the PUI bucket seat covers. They're no comparison to the Legendary quality and overall looks.
COME ON GUYS !! US '65 OWNERS NEED YA !!!
curiouschris Mar 1st, 09, 2:00 PM and as good as their quality may be, if you need a complete interior in a color (like i do) they can't sell you a colored headliner, dash pad, arm rests, pillar posts, sunvisors, etc....they want you to buy a neutral color and dye the rest of the interior. at least thats the way it was for my 68.
Rucumn Mar 3rd, 09, 9:03 AM Just thought I would share some of my progress from yesterday. I actually started this on the weekend and found that I needed to do a few repairs as well as buy some 1/2" pleating foam and spray adhesive from a local upholster.
This was my first time insalling seat covers, so the bottom and the other seat will go much faster. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I made a couple more adjustments after taking these pictures and I must say that it looks as good as any professional job I have seen.

FYI - I called them on 05Mar09 for a progress report. Engineering told me that they are having trouble finding a "quality" supplier for the mylar. They wouldn't provide an estimated availability date.

This is what I got Feb 24:
"Dave,
Thanks for thinking of us.
We do not have the panels as of yet, and it is difficult to give you an
exact time as to when. We are working on the first generation of Camaro
right now so this is our focus for the near future.
Hopefully we will have them soon.

Thank you for thinking of Legendary Auto Interiors"
Camaros?! Chevelles are MUCH more important than Camaros!
Rucumn Mar 14th, 09, 2:40 PM Well, Finally got one of my seats just about completed, just need to install headrest, tracks, and plastics. I have a total of 15 hours into the one seat. It took much longer than I anticipated (what's new), but I ran into unique issues with this particular seat as well as I learned a few things to make the next seat go quicker. I will follow this up with more specific posts with pictures of my steps, but for now I will just share pictures of my seat back together.

Here is the side by side with the seat back from my other seat.

I am pretty happy with the results so far, but judge for yourself.
More to come!
Slick71ss Mar 14th, 09, 2:54 PM WOW! Huge difference!
What brand were your old seat covers? They look terrible next to the Legendary cover.
Rucumn Mar 14th, 09, 3:10 PM I found tags on the old covers that said "Distinctive". I bought them over 10 years ago however, so I don't know if the quality has improved.
Rucumn Mar 15th, 09, 6:18 PM Mission Complete!
Here are a couple of pictures of the seats after about 22 hours of total work. My hands are a bit sore, but well worth the errort.

1969 El Camino Dan Mar 16th, 09, 2:08 AM Excellent job. Great to have the satisfaction of performing a "do it yourself" job turn out with a professional finish, eh?
I'm sure happy with mine.

Nor Cal Chevelle Mar 16th, 09, 7:38 AM Best looking seats I have seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rucumn Mar 17th, 09, 12:43 AM I think I enjoy the process much more than the completion, but I must say that it felt good once they were done!
I took a lot of pictures and would like to write a tutorial on what I went through and the methods I used, but not sure of the best way to construct such a post?
Any ideas on how I can best share the process?
JHP69ss Mar 17th, 09, 9:21 PM Hugh, great job and awesome pics...they speak for themselves...regarding your idea to share the process, excellent idea...suggest a sticky or an article w/pics for the tech reference series...believe a moderator could give some guidance

John,
Thanks for the compliments and the advice on the tutorial. Concerned that the archives haven't been updated or added to since about 2000??? I will wait a few days and see if a moderator chimes in, if not, I may just create a post with repeated replies detailing the steps. My concern is that if I ever default my photobucket account then the picture links may be lost and thus the post would loose its value as a reference in the future.
This site helps me a lot, but I have come across important posts where the picture links are no longer valid and I can't fully understand the detail.
1969 El Camino Dan Mar 18th, 09, 3:41 AM Hugh,
You might consider posting the info on a Team Chevelle blog along with having the pics loaded on a T/C showroom page.
You can create your own photo hosting here, you know....

70cko4sp Mar 18th, 09, 4:03 PM It's amazing how many nicely restored cars you see that have the flat seat upholstery. And it's usually just the front seats that look like that.
It's nice to know someone is producing a product that looks like the original.
Too bad they don't attach the medallion on the door panels. Not a big deal I guess.
Rucumn Mar 18th, 09, 11:47 PM Dan,
Thanks for the advice about the site "photohosting". I didn't realize that I could store photos on this site. I will give it a try this weekend.
I will be pulling my old door panels and rear panels out this weekend and replacing with my new Legendary panels. I also have the crap carpet that everyone complains about and mine is full of fuzz and faded from very little exposure to the sun. I guess I will pressure wash and clean the carpet real good and then redye it. If anyone has tips on how to remove the fuzz, let me know. I haven't done a search on defuzzing yet, but I am sure it has been covered.
CustomChevyGuy Mar 19th, 09, 3:54 AM great looking seat covers..cant wait to have mine closer to being finished
RAMBO Mar 29th, 09, 1:53 PM Hugh, I just sent you a PM.
If you'd like, you can e-mail me the photos you have and your step by step instructions- and i will put together a HTML page in a format that Al could use in the tech ref section.
I'm about ready to start my own bucket seat rebuild, and could really use a little more detailed page than what is available in the bucket seat sticky thread, so i'm happy to work on putting it together since i'm goign to use it!
gene_sc Mar 29th, 09, 3:30 PM Nice job on the seats.... What did you do for headrests? I just finished up installing my Legendary covers, what a difference from PUI. One thing I see most people don't do is replace the wire/burlap. I use stainless welding wire and weave it into new burlap.

Ben,
I will gladly send this info to you. I am very busy this week with work and then yard work and kids, so I will get this info to you this weekend. I think this will work out well if you try using my info, that way you can give me some feedback and perhaps we can work together to make the instructions very straight forward and easy to follow. I will be doing two more sets of bucket seats in the near future also, so we will have plenty of practice getting the details clarified.
