Trying to get the Edlebrock carb (1407) on my 396 properly adjusted and had a quick question about the idle mixture screws.

I started with both of them about 1 1/2 - 2 turns out and noticed that when I turn one of them (right) all the way in, the engine merely stumbles, but doesnt quit running. If I open it back up and then turn the other screw (left) all the way in, the engine will die.

Could this be considered normal, or do I have other problems. Thanks for any help! Scot

i'm pretty sure both of the mixture screws have to be screwed in/out the same amount. Like if you adjust one of them, you have to do the same to the other.

the way you adjust them is turn one in until it stumbles and back it out till it reaches the highest rpm and then back in just a little bit, i think it is a 40 rpm drop. then do the same to the other side. after that adjust the idle and fine tune from there.
