I posted a problem recently that my car a 69 would not start sometime unless i touched it with a jumper or charger just for a second. I changed all four grounds as suggested and still having same problem. When i turn the key my headlights dim so i know the starter must be drawing some current. Do you think the best way to proceed would be a new starter. Its not that old but maybe the best way to go?
Doesn't really sound like a bad starter to me.
When the lights dim it usually means a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere not allowing full voltage to the starter.

Thanks Dean you saved me some time and money Now i will have to find the problem Any idea where to start? Sometimes the car will just start right up and then 3 seconds lateer i have the problem. I will charge the battery up and see what
happens it seem to be charged. I hate electrical problems Ugh!

Try cleaning and tightening the battery connections. May be a poor connection on them because when you jump the car you are actually clamping onto the cables.

I have also seen battery cables corrode from the inside creating high resistance, this could be the problem if the battery checks ok. Attaching the jumper or charger may just be giving enough juice to overcome the increase in resistance. Just a thought

You could drive it to your local auto parts store, they should have one of those battery load testers. That could tell you if you have a bad cell in it.

How old is your battery? I just had a problem with my 4 yr old Antique Auto Battery which when it was charging appeared good. Voltage test showed good but when I went to start it, just a very slow turn with the clicking noise shortly following after. It turned out that I had a cell go bad inside my battery. Got a new battery and she starts right up like new again.

I found the problem there was an old splice in the wire from the coil to the starter. Cut it out and rewired it and so far we have igintion and liftoff. TYhanks guys
