I have a 67 chevelle that i bought without a motor and trans and i purchased a 396 and a 400 trans out of a 69 truck to throw in it. Is thier a way to tell if the front springs are for a big block (the cowl tag is missing). Also if the small block springs would be ok to use? Thanks Tom.

Tom, I'd go ahead and set the BB in the car. If you don't like the way it sits, you can adress that later on.
About the cowl tag,boy that's a doobie. All kind of problems can come from that. You can post on that later, also.
Look inside the drivers door on the lower A pillar. There should be a tag there also. It should start something like, 136177B. The 1 denotes "Chevrolet". 36 denotes a Malibu. If there is a 38 there, you have a SS, a big block car.
