I'm re-doing the interior in my 2-door wagon. Since '64/'65 consoles in mint condition are so hard to come across, I like the looks of the '64 Impala console, which I know I would have to modify to fit. Will a '64 thru '68 shifter fit in an Impala console and has anyone tried this before? Thanks.

I know someone who did something like that. He put a 63 Impala console in a 65 Malibu. To my knowledge, no modifications were required. The stock Malibu bench seat shifter fit just fine and it even works/looks nice!

Personally I think that console in the picture looks better than the all chrome, original 64chevelle consoles. I have never been a fan of those all chrome consoles myself. That conversion looks very nice.

Frank, thanks for the picture and the reply. My car is equipped with a LS1 and a 4L60 auto, so that's why I'm looking at the '64 console as well as the availibility to purchase them new in the after market. I've also looked at the '66/'67 Chevelle console, but I just don't like the clock. Thanks.

Yeah I like the looks of the one in the photo. The large SS near the front is cool. If you are not concerned about pure stock look then that is a great way to go.

I used the 68 Impala console in my 68 chevelle and had no problems.I did not have to modify.I used the 68 Chevelle auto shifter.I dont like aftermarket gauges and the 68 Impala SS has the 4 gauges between the console and the dash, another part I still have to buy.I also have an extra ash tray for spare change. It worked in my 68 so I dont see any reason why it wouldn't work in a 64

Looks almost original... I'm surprised. Good to know there is an alternative to a pitted console (or custom made). BTW, rechroming a 64/65 console can wash out the top side fins if the chromer isn't careful with the buff wheel. To rechrome, you need to start with a very good sample console.

I always wondered how one of those Impala consoles would look in a Chevelle. That looks really nice. Probably much cheaper and easier to find then the correct 64 console too.
