: Power steering box problems??

I have a problem with my 66 4 door that I recently purchased. As I'm driving down the road, the car suddenly tracks left or right as the steering wheel is held straight. You can't detect this while driving at lower speeds, but when I drove on 2 lane highway at 55-60 m.p.h. you notice it. The movement is sudden, but it does not take you into the other lane. It's annoying, and I don't want to drive the car long distances.

I owned 2 other 66 Chevelles back in high school, and I never experienced this problem. If the power steering box is going bad, will it cause this?

Car only has 49,000 original miles. It has new new front shocks, ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings, stabilizer pins, etc. Remaining front end parts appear to be tight.

Any thoughts? As always, thanks for any help.

Worn centerlink (drag link) will cause uncommanded wheel movement. If you pop it loose from the pitman arm and that joint moves with your fingers, chances are you found it.

Thanks John. I'll check it. I was wondering if that might be causing my problem. It wouldn't be quite as evident as bad tie rod ends.

I was hoping it wasn't the steering box..... no greenbacks right now for a rebuild. :D

Thanks,
Scott
