I've got an '89 Jeep Wrangler that has an intermittent stalling problem. It didn't happen too often, maybe once a month in the past, but it's starting to happen more often now. Here's what happens: The engine just stalls when I'm stopped. It won't die when driving, but if I'm stopped in gear, or making a turn, every once in a while it'll just die. It starts back up fine as if nothing happened. One strange thing I did notice about the stalling is that when it does stall, the tachometer doesn't go to zero, it keeps bouncing around, from 200-3000 RPM, even though the engine is stopped. It doesn't happen often enough that I could get it to reliably happen for a mechanic. The engine runs okay otherwise. The drivetrain is the 4.2L inline 6 (carbureted) with the 3-speed automatic. Since this is my daily driver, I don't want to get stuck with it. Any thoughts as to where I should look?
