The story goes like this, car won't start, get it home and go through the usual stuff. Well when trying to crank it over it kinda bogged down, in a really weird way. I turned off the key, and the starter stuck, still cranking!! At this point I thought to myself, oh crap, and went to pull a cable or something, when it turned off. I got out of the car to inspect and the battery post MELTED! I couldn't believe it. So, fast forward a little, rebuilt the engine harness after good reason to suspect it and still no go. So I then disconnect all of the wiring, and run power to the starter, and to the distributor through a toggle switch. Hook up my remote starter switch, and crank away. No problems detected. Next, I applied power to the distributor, only to have the same problem, the engine bogged down in its cranking, and the starter stuck running, even after I disconnected power from the distributor. This time I was ready with a quick disconnect on the battery. I then thought, hmmm maybe the coil is shorting out or something, replaced it and no go. Is my starter shorting out internally? Is it the module in the distributor? I'm at wits end with this thing, and it's super weird.
Thanks to all for the enduring the read and giving your input, even if it isn't chevelle related.

The thought is that the ignition switch is acting up. Try putting your remote start switch between the solenoid "S" terminal and the wire that normally goes there. Newer solenoids only have one small terminal and that is the "S" terminal.
Disconnect the wire off that terminal. Put one remote starter lead on that terminal and the other remote starter lead on the disconnected wire. Protect that connection with tape so it don't short.
Hold the remote starter switch button in and have someone turn the key. The starter should turn. If it sticks, release the remote starter button and see if it stops the starter. If it does, replace the ignition switch.
Make some sense?

Makes sence, thanks John, I thought of that too! That is why I have all of the car's wiring disconnnected, so that includes the leads to the ignition switch. Any other thoughts??
Thanks,
Brandon

well are you going to share it with us? Was it the switch? Glad you figured it out anyway

I think what was going on were two separate problems after I sorted out the wiring harness. The sylenoid on the starter was acting up, and later when I went out to tinker some more it wasn't engaging at all. Ok, new starter, it's under warranty anyway. So from there it just doesn't want to start, and cranks a little funny, but now has spark (original reason I had to tear into the wiring harness). So I thought for a moment and decided it sounded as if the timing was waaaay advanced, even though I swore up and down I didn't move the distributor. Upon further investigation I realized I had made a bonehead move when changing the coil and inspecting the cap and transfered the plug wires over one position from where they were supposed to be. Bam, timings on, starter works, and all is well. Ken just saved my butt over in the electrical forum with some missing terminals, so Mom's car should be ready for the river in no time.
As always thanks a million gentlemen!! :D
