I had this in the heating and cooling section. Thought I would try it here.

My son's 72 El camino has what we believe is a "Vintage Air " air conditioner installed. When running the air conditioner the fan will stop working. He then shuts it all off and in a few minutes turns it on again and it will work a while and then shut itself off again. He said it also did it in the winter with the heater on but not as often.
When it comes back on the air is cold. Could it be the fan itself is the problem? Any way to check it? Any one else had this problem?
Intermittant problems are always fun. We think it is a "Vintage Air " unit but it came with the car when we got it and the company that installed it is no longer in business. Thanks for any help. RichF
P.S. Today he told me it happened yesterday without the air on - the fan cuit out while in vent mode.

I think I would look for a 'breaker' in the power circuit for the fan. Could be heating up and opening up the circuit.

Check your grounds to the blower motor. Many times we paint our parts to make them look good and forget that the grounds needs clean metal.

Thanks for the ideas. I wonder, if there is a breaker. I will look into it. Then I wonder if the breaker would be the problem or if the fan would cause the breaker to trip. I will have to tear into the dash this week and see what I can find in there. The bad part is we bought the car with air installed and have no documentation with the air or how it works. But from what I can tell it looks like a vintage air unit. RichF

I went to the vintage air web site. They have wiring diagrams and looks like it has to be a relay or the fan. I guess I'll try their tech support next week and ask for help. Hopefully they sell spare parts. RichF
