OK, I have read AIM and I have searched for the correct 327 hole measurements for a 67 Malibu and I cannot find the correct measurments to drill the 327 emblem holes over the crosssed flags. AIM, 11-13, B2 and L30, A4 states measurements but it doesn't say how much above the crossed flags the holes should be and it doesn't make sense to me. Did I miss something in the AIM? I would sure appreciate it if one of you have the correct measurments to install the 327 emblems over the crossed flags on a 67 Malibu or know where thay are at and let me know.
appreciate the guidance and help.

cwYou can get the '0' baselines from UPC 11-13, sheet B12. I assume you have the correct location for the flags from 11-13/B2 with the flag's the top right hole is 1.32" left of the -35 reference line and 1.22" up from the reference 20 line?

The 327 emblem is 1.43" left of the -35 reference line and 1.86" up from the 20 reference line. In other words the top right hole on the 327 emblem is left of the top right hole of the flag .11" (1.43-1.32) and up .64" (1.86-1.22).

If you don't have the flag to reference from and are starting from scratch, both can be found. Whether you measure for the flag or the 327 emblem first isn't relevant as you can find one from the other just by noting the differences.

I find the calculations to be easier from two other reference points - Notice on UPC 11-13, sheet B12 the centerline of the radiator support and top of the radiator support measurements? These are taken from the two (hard to determine) '0' reference lines and are shown as -38.92" and 25.88" (22.36 + 3.52) respectively and can be easily identified

Using the flag as an example, the top right hole is -36.32" (1.32 to the left of -35) left of the horizontal '0' reference line. Subtract this from the radiator support centerline (at -38.92) and you get 38.92-36.32 or 2.6" to the right of the radiator centerline. From the top of the radiator support you need to subtract 21.22" (20+1.22) from the 25.88" and you get 4.66" down the fender.

Hope that doesn't confuse you...

:wacko:Dammit Dale,----made me dizzy:wacko:Yeah, someday I have to draw that up. :D

I'll start by measuring the flag and 327 emblem from my El Camino. Front fenders are so rounded and angled, it's hard to find good reference points to measure from - but I'll see what I can come up with on the El Camino and maybe make it easier.

I have specs on most of the quarter panel emblems since those aren't shown in the AIM but nothing specific on the flags, 327, and 396 fender emblems.

Your right Bryan, Dale made me dizzy too but after I look at what he is saying a couple of time I understand it now, I think. I appreciate it Dale. However, I drilled the holes last afternoon from the information I got from the yards and they came out pretty good. Last evening after I had primed the drill holes and got everything cleaned up I sat down with a refreshment and rethought this process. This is what I should have done since I had the original two holes and the emblems removed on the fenders.
From the fenders without emblems I should have made some paper templets.
Compare and transfer to a firm paper templet.
Lay the templet over the two flag holes and temporary install the flags thru the templet, this shows right where the 327 holes should be drilled and how the 327 emblem will look on the fender. (my fenders are painted so I used painters tape to protect the finish over this area).
One thing I learned, my 327 emblems (GM restroration) were wider at the tips than they were at the base of the emblem, I took my initial measurments from the tips on how wide the holes should be and it's very tight at the base of the emblem, almost a xxxxxxxx.
If I have a chance I'll go back and make a couple of paper templets from the fenders I found this weekend.

I took these photos and measurements a couple of hours ago. They may help some. They are as close as I could get to a sixteenth of an inch. I don't believe the sheetmetal has ever been replaced so the measurements should be good. Measurements are not to the mounting holes themselves but to points on the two emblems that should give you at least a starting point to use and then locate the mounting holes.

The horizontal measurements are taken from the front edge of the fender (did not use grille extension) to the points indicated on the 327 number and Turbo Fire flag.

The vertical measurements are taken from the upper belt-line crease (not the top of the fender-line) to the points indicated on the 327 number and Turbo Fire flag.

The measurements to the 327 number are to the frontmost and lowermost point on the bar.

The measurements to the flag are the upper 'bar' between the flags themselves and to the centerline of the center, white rectangle.

Found a pic with measurements on the internet (not mine, I get no credit) and posted to my profile pics. Hope it helps someone.

That's my El Camino. Hope it helps someone in the future. I removed them from the site in the previous link, that's the reason for the red "X"
