Old Cars Weekly has an update on this interesting story:

The 21 trailers sealed with big-block cars bearing the names "Yenko," "Sting Ray" and "Super Sport," and housing parts for such cars, have been emptied, but the rumble from the greatest muscle car find ever can still be felt.

Now the 1970 Chevrolet LS6 Chevelle SS with its original Fathom Blue paint, white stripes and 450-hp 454-cid V-8 that was discovered among the parts and pieces is about to see the light of day once again.

You can read the whole story here. (http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/article/Chevelle_from_21_trailer_find_headed_for_museum/)

The story states the Chevelle is original and unmolested, but it appears to have the wrong wheels and grill. I wonder if there are any documents with the car.

Im guessing that the LS6 mentioned is the gold one and not the blue. Usually unmolested would mean wheels, grill not changed but theres also a real funky looking trailer hitch on that thing. Im guessing its the other LS6 they found.

I was at the Maryland auction where both these cars crossed the block. First of all, let me tell you that some "poetic liscense" was used in describing the blue car as "unmolested." Many parts were missing, and the motor in the Blue car was a four speed motor (car was Auto). Seems the guy that stuffed them in the trailers had a penchant for removing the engines, and rebuilding them and storing them in another trailer, that was normal practice. Gold car also had a CE replacement engine. Both cars badly needed restoration, Gold one was basically just a shell with a motor mocked up in it for resale, and the blue one, while better, had blistered paint and needed all cosmetics. If memory serves me correct, Gold one sold at around 48K, and blue one did not meet reserve at 51K. Was more money than either was worth. A phone bidder even put in a pre-auction bid of 100K that was refused. So if the motors existed, they were not there at sale time. I had been told that both motors were not in the collection. It is a neat story, and some of the parts bought at the auction were killer. I did buy an #837 Alt there that would have dated for either of these cars and probably came from one of them for $120. Suprisingly, for all the advertising of this sale, there were suprisingly few people there. Best buy I made was the 70 1/2 Z28 #1112019 distributor I bought for $10!!!!! (The catalog listed it as a #1112013)

All in all, a great sale. The story has become legendary.....and like all legends...............is usually hyped.
