I've got a problem with a Holley carb that floods out every once and a while. I've got a holley canister fuel filter, then a "red" electric fuel pump pumbed to a holley fuel regulator and then running into a single feed, side hung, 650 4 barrel. The carb was new in the box but it was purchased in 1984. I've got a little fuel pressure gauge on the regulator and it reads only 4 lbs while running. I bought a kit for the carb and put in the new needles and reuseable gaskets. Took it for 150 mile cruise and ran fine. When I start it the next day the gas is flowing out the front vent tube.........again. I've taken it apart to look for crud and find nothing. HELP

Float level to high, should be level when taken off and turned over. Also check power valve, determine engine vacuum devide by 1/2, then take 1 1/2 off (ex: 21 inches divide x 2 =10.5 - 1.5 = 9.0 power valve)

Roger;New parts are not always good parts.Pull the needle valve assembly and check the o-ring.If it looks good, change the needle and seat again. Are you lubricating the o-ring with vaseline or grease when assembling? If not,do so.If the fuel is clean,it has to be the needle and seat,o-ring,or the float is saturated or incorrectly adjusted.
Extreme; The power valve has nothing to do with the fuel level in the bowl. Steve

67 shovel,
I had a similar experience and so did several friends. Turned out to be a tiny piece of trash on the soft part of the needle that was causing the flooding. Had to use a magnifying glass to see it.

Pulled the needles last night and inspected with a magnifying glass. Didn't see any O-ring damage and I didn't see anything on the needle either. Put it back together and had to set the float WAY low to keep it from flowing out the level plug hole. Way low meaning the flats on the needle body are flush with the top of the carb and I don't even need the nut that you adjust with. It is working now. maybe my problem is sloved.

Roger; Sounds like the float arm was bent at one time.If you need to lower the float any more, remove it and slightly bend the arm downward. But if it's working now, just drive it and enjoy. graemlins/hurray.gif Steve

I found it. Both floats were full of gas! It was the metal ones.......new carb too! I replaced with plastic ones out of a parts carb.
