Anybody have any kind/negative feedback on what Shafiroff offers as far as crate engines? They seem to be using at least 80% of the parts I would like to use in my prospective motor, hmm, then again, I'm a painter not a engine builder....

a friend of mine had a issue with a 582 assemb shortblock that did not make two passes before scattering.he sent it all back for them to tear apart and they told him it had water in the oil, well of course it will when it busted two holes in the block:(.they did not make it right either

a friend of mine bought a 540, ran a procharger on it with a small hit of nos, ran a ton of passes in the 5's (1/8) and even hit an 8.9 in the 1/4, only problem, and not something Shafiroff did, was headgasket failed once-you couldnt kill that motor-i think he upgraded the crank when he ordered it at the time-anything can fail i guess, as we are human, lol

Water in the oil has nothing to do with who built the short block. Whoever installed the intake manifold is at fault.
I have a Shafiroff 540 short block in mine and couldn't be happier. It was cheaper than I could build it myself and dealing with Scott Shafiroff was effortless.
Highly recommended!

anytime considering buying something large heavy and expensive from a vendor think about the reality of a warranty claim. How far are you from them?

I have one friend that bought the 572 last year and took it to the track several times. It ran fine.
I have another friend that owns an auto repair business. He has had at least one customer that says he won't buy another Shafiroff engine because it didn't have nearly the power that they claim on the build sheet. He took it to another dyno to prove it was wrong. I know that different dynos will give different numbers depending on numerous variables.
Moral of the story. If you ask enough people, you will hear good and bad stories about anything.
As stated above, try to work with someone close to you.

well we have a local club racer who has one of there 20K 540 engines he got it 2 years ago ad has already had to go through it and redo stuff not because it had bad parts or anything just cause it wasnt as powerfull as he had hoped. after going through it it now his 64 tubbed chevelle runs 9.50's N/A and runs 8.70's on spray. he likes it

Dave,
Give me a call at the shop and we can talk about what you're looking for. 1-800-957-7223. I'm not a salesman, just an engine builder so feel free to call and chat.
I guarantee we have a better product, better warranty, and make more power than Shafiroff.
If you want something more local, Wolfplace on this forum is in CA like you and builds some killer engines! Many, many members on this forum have engines from Mike.
