Getting old and can't remember from my younger days, but 65 doesn't wnt to turn over. Starts when I cross the leads on the solinoid. Does this indicate starter or solinoid? thanks ........

this indicates the starter and solenoid are working fine--ignition switch or wiring concern

It could also be the neutral safety switch. Check for a difference in the voltage across the switch when trying to crank. Sometimes the contacts get old and corroded and all the voltage does not make it across the switch.

Turns out it was a bad armature in the starter.
