Hello again, and here we go again. 1970 chevelle wagon, ORIGINALLY small block. I have a 1973 454 p/u engine in it now and tried to install Hedman shorty headers.(ground clearance issues). They hit the crossmember. I was told by Summit Racing Equipment that I had to change the engine mounts on the crossmember over to big block witch would raise the engine and I could get them at any Auto Zone store. Auto Zone tells me small and big block mounts are the same in 1970 only. OKAY, could someone be a lot more thorough on this. Also, wouldn't raising the engine change the whole geometry. (radiator shroud clearance, pinion angle, brake booster clearance, etc?)

Which "small block" 307 or 350 was original equipment? I ask because I think that the "frame" mount for the motor mounts are different heights. The 350 uses the same as BB, the 307 is different.

Luuuke, I had the same car and motor combination. I bought the motor mount for a 70 SS with a 454 and they matched up to the 350 frame mounts.
I used the Flowtek headers and they fit with no clearance problems. I did have to unbolt the steering shaft at the rag joint and move it over just to get enough room to slip the drivers side in place.

Thanks you guys, Billy, where your flowtechs shorty style or full length? My situation is, I have a 2" spindle drop that I really favor for appearance, I tried full length Hookers that only had a 1.5" clearance from the street and they fit just fine. These Hedman shorties, the #1 cylinder tube hits the crossmember by .25". Would there be any harm in heating up the crossmember and hammer a dipple in it to clear? redface.gif
