My friend has a '99 Honda CRV with it's stock radio. Her radio had been kind of going out one day, it was faded and fuzzy sounding and the 'ST' on the display was fading in and out with the sound (ST for stereo). It's starting to do it again she says but this time it's been doing it for a week. Now she's wanting me to take a look and see if I can 'fix' it so she won't have to spend money and take her car in. I'll have to remove the dash, but what could be wrong? To me it sounds like maybe the antenna connection got lose for a bit that one day and fixed itself, but got really loose again. I'm not sure though. Any tips?

Check the AM reception. If AM comes in fine and does not cut out then the problem probably is in the radio's FM section and this is not something that can be fixed except by a technician with a shematic and test equipment.
AM relies on the antenna 100% and FM not as much and if AM is dead or weak it could be the antenna. Also make sure the antenna is up all the way and fully extended.
