I have a 67 malibu, i recently installed a th350
when I shift into reverse or drive there is a loud clanking noise, and when the car is moving it vibrates around 55 mph and gets worse as speed increases. It also has a noise at low speeds 0-15mph it is similiar to (for a lack of a better word,) circular. the noise comes and goes but the frequency increases with speed but then seems to go away. both noises sound like they are coming from under the car. any ideas on where to start looking? I thought it maybe the driveshaft or perhaps the u joints. could it be possible the shift linkage is adjusted incorrectly? thanks.

Put the rearend up on jack stands just enough to get the tires off the ground. Put it in gear and let it spin at idle. If it is the u-joints......they will be clanking pretty good. If not....you should be able to tell where the noise is coming from. While the car is off.........grab the drive shaft by each u-joint (one at a time) and yank up and down......and turn back in forth. You will be able to isolate the noise if it is the drive shaft. This will also test the pinion and out put shaft of the tranny. Good luck
