Do you have access to gm HEI unit, if so their a nice way to go. Use a/the GM 990 modual, good quality cap, gm coil, set the mechanical and vacuum advance up correctly and you can spin it up to 6500 rpm trouble free. Remember.... there is no such thing as a drop in dizzy that is going to be perfectly ideal for your engine setup. One must retune recalibrate it for your engine application. And don't let that part scare you. Their not that hard or difficult to work on, and there is alot guys here who will help.

Thanks for the info I was more concerned with the quality of the unit. It is a HEI style dist. I purchased it cheap and it is new. As for the tuning that does'nt bother me at all I am a ase master with L1. Have raced a little Nova with a 362 ci Small block for over 18 years Best ET 10:13 at 131.99

That IS the point, they are junkers, especially the electronics. Change ALL the electronics, then, all you will have to do is do the right mods to the rest of it, about the same cost as a good, useable Pro-Form and other after market HEI.

:cool: I guess I must be one lucky SOB cuz my Pro Comp HEI dist has given me over a year of trouble free use. I have a bone stock long block 327 with headers. edlebrock intake and carb. I would say about 9,500 miles on the dist so far w/o incident. If the electronics are an issue to me it was no big deal cuz I bought it shipped to me for $40 NIB. The machining looks great at least on the outside. I did spend the cash for a good set of wires(MSD Hi Preformance).
