My freinds '65 Chevrolet P/U has a problem with the headlights. He said they "just quit" We have replaced the switch and all we can hear is the switch ticking. We also can hear the wire harness that runs down the fender ticking. Any input?
thanks, graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Does it have a headlight relay, or a circuit breaker instead of a fuse? I can't think of anything else that would tick.

If you have a short, then the circuit breaker will cycle in and out and cause a tick.

If you have a relay and it is defective, it could be ticking.

Speculation on my part.

Switch ticking sounds like a short somewhere causing the circuit breaker in the switch to cycle.

Power goes from headlight switch to dimmer switch, use a test light to see if you have power in and power out of the dimmer switch.

we figured it out. Turned out to be the dimmer switch was not getting a good ground. Thanks for your help graemlins/thumbsup.gif

thats what I thought too. But when we cleaned the floor the switch would spark on the floor and headlights would flip on  . But as long as it works graemlins/beers.gif

Only reason it needs a ground is to work the dome light.
