Howdy folks,
Haven't been around in a while, but now I need some advice. I have a P/U with a 350/700R4 combo. It has HEI and an 800cfm Quadra-jet. After it warms-up it runs great until I get on it hard. When I do, it stumbles and there is a bad fuel smell. In the past I could just burp the throttle fully a couple times and this would clear it up, but lately I that doesn't correct it and I have to shut it off to get it to "reset." I figured this is carb related and I bought a rebuild kit, but would a rebuild help or is there something more I need be to looking at?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Float sticking???????

Wouldn't that cause a problem all the time, not only when going wide open? I guess I'm looking for more info on the power-valve/power boost-valve or whatever it's called (don't see my book near-by). I know Q-jets have something like this, but not sure how it works.
It does go back to working properly after I turn it off and let it sit for a few seconds (15-20 is all that's necessary). At first I thought it might be the secondary sticking open, but everything there seems to close like it should.
Anything else you can think of?
Thanks

There are several links here that may help you find what your looking for....

Thanks for the link. I'll be spending the next few days reading through the info in these pages.

Well, after reading for a while and a little deducing, I believe it's related to mt Power-valve sticking open (up position). Anyone else think this sounds reasonable?
Thanks

Time to pull it apart!

You can check the power valve with the carb still on the engine. If you look down the front bowl vent you can see the crossbar for the power piston.
Push it down gently. If you release it, it should pop back up.

The other things to look for would be secondary throttle plates hanging up, secondary air valves hanging up, and a accelerator pump cup sticking.
