I have happens ever time i start the motor,i pump the gas to get the motor started, it run afew sec. then dies but as its dies it pops gas threw the carb. some time if i pump it alot it will shoot a flame, this only happens when its a cold start, so i pump the gas ride it lightly and increase the rpms and gas as it warms up and it ok
once i warm it up i don't have to give it gas it fires right up with no gas? is this a timing thing
the motor has a holley 850 stock out of the box 454, 1.190 1.880 781 heads and a lunati cam
duration @.050 232/239 deg .549/.558 lift @ .050

If your not using the choke, engine is running lean until it warms up,choke helps to supply more fuel than air, common problem on cars with no choke and a cold engine.Shouldn't be as bad when the weather stays warm! graemlins/waving.gif

It's running too lean, either because of the timing, or the jet sizes, or both. Retard the timing a few degrees, and you should hear your idle increase in RPM - and that means it wants to be richer. I once burned off my hair from this same problem when the carb puked fire. graemlins/clonk.gif

Good luck,
