I was taking a vac. reading at the carb base and as the motor idles i get a reading that is 5 jumps
up 7 .it bunces between 5-7 Hg, but when i give it gas it will read stedy at any rpm is this mornal, i do have a larger cam than stock .558 lift @.050 :D

What are the rest of the spec's on the cam?

I have a LUNATI 00026 THE SPEC ARE

DURATION @ .050 232/239 deg
lift .549/.558
lobe separation .110

if you need more info. please ask i have the cam

Robert if 7" of vacuum is what your reading on a 454 with that cam I would say you have a bad vacuum leak somewhere,that would also acount for the lean misfire on cold startup to.I have a 461 with 10.7 comp.and 255/263@50 612/630 cam and have 8" of vacuum.Your vacuum reading should be higher with that cam.There are several things that can effect vacuum,leak,timing,low comp,would be what I looked at first! graemlins/waving.gif

OK i started with 16 degs , then i set my timming light to 28 rev. to 2000 rpms turned the distr. till the line was on 0 deg. all this was done with the hei vac line off. THIS IS HOW I WAS TOLD TO SET IT now if its the right WAY i don't know.
feel free to add any info. I NEED TO FIND MORE INFO. ON SETTING TIMMING :confused:

Yes, do a search in the engine or performance section for timing procedures....I don't know what motor you have, but most Chevy's run 35-38 total.....
