My Power steering gear box had been leaking a little bit, so I took out the gear and a friend replaced the seal. This is an original gear box in a 66.
I put the gear box back in and put a little fluid in the remote reservoir and turned the wheel a few rotations just to see if there were any leaks by the hoses, etc. The car was not started. The next morning the fluid had drained out of the reservoir; but a leak showed up in the area of the seal I replaced (the one on the end by the rag joint). :(
Do you think the seal was damaged upon replacement? Is there any other possible reason for the leak? Could something be worn to cause this problem? Seal installed wrong? Could this seal up after running the car this spring? Thanks.
