Good looking car from the pics, pretty doggone correct. Should have a black vinyl top, and some other details not exactly correct (grille extensions, reverse light switch cover, fully painted bell housing)

Not sure if they're rare, but it is unusual to see them.
The SS 396 foil inserts were used on the early production 68 SS's.
There's a set of nos SS 396 bezels on ebay right now and the top bid is over $400.

No. Most agree that this style emblem was on January and earlier cars.

i just have always liked how they looked over just the plain 396 side markers.

whats wrong with the grille extensions? Update there not cross hatched like the grill I went out and check mine
the reverse light switch cover should be black (may be for a Impala or vette)
the tag on the rear end is suppose to be on the upper bolt above the axle tube. Right?
leaf grilles on the holes in the cowl. But I like them makes it look better than just holes.
I hate red interiors
The @#$%^& dealer should be shoot for hanging the tag on the front of the car like that what a *&*^%$#@ boozo.
eastriverss Feb 15th, 09, 3:26 PM Also note that 796 trim is red buckets and not a bench.
Chris_69_SS Feb 15th, 09, 6:24 PM Really, really nice car . What a 68 should look like in my opinion. Absolutely love it.

I may be wrong about these extensions:o-they look a little odd in the pictures, but it may be the camera angle and the lighting.
the reverse light switch cover should be black (may be for a Impala or vette)
The reverse lamp switch shield (part #3706355) is missing, and there should be a harness clip attached to the lower side cover bolt. The only reason I'm bringing this up is because it's such a good pic of the trans, it makes it very obvious what's not right.;)

Usually, but that ain't a big deal. The reason the tag isn't there is because incorrect brake line clips are attached to that bolt and the one on the other side.
leaf grilles on the holes in the cowl. But I like them makes it look better than just holes.
But it's not correct. Personally, I like the open cowl look.
I hate red interiors
Now, now, let's be more tolerant.:p
What is it worth??? I'd hope around $38~$40,000. But in this market, I doubt if it'll get anywhere close to that. IMO, the dealer will be lucky to get the opening bid, but I don't buy & sell cars, so what do I know??:clonk:
BillL
speedyy Feb 16th, 09, 8:10 AM It's a beauty for the money though...
it won't sell for what it's worth.... I agree on Ark.... it's 2% from finished, worth about 40k, in this economy you can likely pick it up for 25K
REMIX Feb 16th, 09, 9:32 AM Wilde Jaguar is local to me. They want $46k for this car.
The dealer is (and always has been) pretty out of touch with the current market IMO. They do get some nice cars here and there...I went down there earlier last year to try and strike a deal on a black 00 Viper R/T and they were just uninterested in doing any kind of business at all. I couldn't even get them to call me back. The car sat there for months afterward. They're looking for rich tourists and part time residents who have no idea what things are worth. They sell Jag/Lexus/Smart Cars and they're looking for rich suckers who watch BJ and want a "toy" along with the Jag.
I ran into a guy this weekend at a car show who bought a 2005 Viper from them and he's had all kinds of issues with it. Take that FWIW, I guess. While this might be a nice car, I'd stay away from this dealer. You'll be wasting your time trying to get them to get real.

If that car is as nice as it appears in the photo's and I was on the hunt for a quality red on red '68, I wouldn't let a few extra dollars stand in my way, JMO.
savage71chevelless Feb 16th, 09, 10:50 AM what an amazing car. i could never afford it. personally i would love to have it, but i would have a lot more fun with a driver like the two cars i have now. i'd be afraid to drive that thing for fear of a door ding or a scratch

S........ I missed the shield was looking at the color of the sealer on the leads to the switch.
Oh also I hate red cars
I was being more tolerant:D
and those peanut butter jar hubcaps

Anthony,
Is that dealership on BeeRidge down by the railroad tracks or closer to 41? Or am I thinking of a different on?

It's on Clark Road, about 1 mile east of the tracks.

X2. I wish GM would have stuck with them instead. Sure is a beautiful car. Sounds like another typical dealer from some of the previous responses.

Thanks,
I will be on Clark this Thursday and check it out.
JeffL Feb 22nd, 09, 7:32 PM Yes that is my old 68 chevelle. I guess if all anybody can find wrong with it is a few fixable little things thats good. The car came with buckets and a vinyl top. I had the car built how I wanted the car to look. It is the same car on the GS resto site, he built it for me. I sold it to a guy in the northeast 5 or 6 years ago. It has held up pretty nice, and thanks for all the compliments on the car. That car was left for dead and should have been crushed, but the first time I saw the car I envisioned it looking like it came out.
Freddy Mercado Feb 22nd, 09, 8:34 PM That is one sweet looking and well done vehicle! Very nice.
I saved an e-Bay listing for that car 6 years ago. A place by the name of MW Classics out of Fishkill, NY had it listed. Unfortunately I saved the details before the auction ended so I have no idea what it went for.
I see that a wood wheel has been added to it sometime after the auction 6 years ago.
I remember that someone on the site here had restored it but I lost who it was. So it was Jeff L.
