I have noticed that since I've changed my original type starter with a high torque starter (Summit brand) I have an ignition problem. In my 69 when I turn the key everything works fine except the key stays in the start position and has to be moved manually to the neutral position. Is this just a coincidence or is there so kind of wiring screw up?

You need a new switch. Try some graphite in it.
