I wasn't sure if this would go here...but here it is nonetheless.

Is there any other way to secure the hood pull arm on my 69 Chevelle other than drilling holes for locks in my SS hood to prevent any engine bay theft, or vandalism? And..do they make a gas cap with a lock for the gas filler?

Pics would be nice...thank you!!!

i would imagine that somewhere out there someone would make an after market hood release? i'll do some searching, and i'll post if i have any luck.

Good question.....I was just about to post asking that. I know they make locking gascaps for newer cars, so i'd imagine you could probably mind one for a chevelle. Not sure where though...sorry.

I don't know.I use a stainless steel chain wraped in electrical tape with lock. Hope there is no fires :sad:Just depends where you park it also.

A popular dealer add on security option in the mid 70's and the 80's was the Chapman Lock.It had a shielded cable and a hood locking mechanism that mounted near the latch. The key was a round type like you see on vending machines. It was normally mounted under the drivers side of the dash,so you could unlock it from the drivers seat. Some of the better brands even had a kill switch included into the key assembly.I haven't seen any of these in awhile as the newer alarms made them obsolete. Also they weren't that reliable.Maybe they are still available. Most new alarms have a pinswitch under the hood to signal its been opened. You can get a locking gas cap at any autoparts store.

I don't know about the hood, but on my car I have a locking gas cap, that you can get from autozone or checker or just about any parts store. Its vented. I drive a 70 so I don't know if this will apply to your car. Also if you do end up picking one up don't ever lose the keys because OMG they are hard to get off.

Johnny,
Thats it, we used to call them Chapman locks. I just checked a JCwhitney catalog and they're still listed.

I use a cable bicycle lock I run it through the frame work on the hood and down to the frame rail or bumper bracket, It has worked good for me, so far there have been two occasions when I have come out of a store to find the hood unlatched but the cable wont let it open.

I used to own a '67 Hemi GTX, as soon as people would see Hemi on the side they would try and open the hood. And I said "try" I used a cable & padlock which was behind the bottom of the grill. If some one tried to open the hood, they would release the latch and the hood would open only about 1/2" and would not close again due to the cable, so I would know every time someone was screwing with my car. A secret kill switch inside the car helped me sleep at night. Dave

If you're not afraid of being sued, or cleaning up a mess, and can remember - some single edged razor blades duct taped to the hood release work great!

Just kiddin' guys!

Some coated chain and a nasty padlock will slow down most creeps.

I like the idea of the razor blades...just wouldn't work for my car. I'd use them if it would. lol ha haaa... the bike lock sounds good though. I figure putting an NRA sticker in your car and something that says you always carry a gun might help too.

I heard that the british designed a car (never went into production naturally) that had flamethrowers on it, so if you tried to steal the car you would be toasted. Now THAT IS MY KIND OF CAR!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I like a 12 guage pump.. the best thing I've heard of , as said by DSR is the secret kill switch. a rug won't look too hard to find out why it won't start.

Some of the anti-kiddnap tools I have seen on cars in south america were wild. Being carjacked? how about a blade that comes from under the car to "stump" your attacker. Variations on this are usually steel bars to hobble instead of hack. Bright lights to blind some one tailing behind. The old stand by, bullet proof glass. Door handles and exteriors wired for high voltage.
And yes, I have even seen flame throwers from the rear and sides (flowing/jacking). Want just enough to set your friends a-flame?

To much Speed Racer meets James Bond down there.

I once saw a 12 gauge shotgun within the drivers side door that would fire if you opened it after pressing a special button. I have heard of people using this on cops if they are told to step out of the vehicle and car jackers...

sad.. graemlins/sad.gif

If they want it, they will get it! DETERANT yes, no such thing as anti-theft! If you have a bike under your hood, then I agree, use a bike chain.

You know i've pondered the same things. I think I'll go with the hidden kill switch and not worry about the rest, that is why we pay insurance. Mine is currently insured with state farm, but am in the process of applying for collector car insurance-VERY cheap compared to S.F. and it is an agreed value policy. $20,000 coverage with no deductible is about $268/year. Only limitation is that it must be garaged and cannot be used for daily transportation to/from work/school. Some policies have a mileage limit, others do not.

713550ss is correct.
I purchased a hood lock/kill switch combo from JC Whitney about a year ago. The name brand is Wolo. Not hard to install and adds extra protection from theft and vandals even if to slow them down some. You will not be dissapointed in the quality. Key is vending type and mounts easily.
Think I paid around $30.00
Gas Cap-
I purchased a vented locking gas cap at the same time last year from NAPA. Just have them look it up.
