: Friggin e-bay
1BLACKHARLEY Feb 13th, 09, 12:09 PM i'm looking at a car, the auction has been stalled for days, so i figure i'd have a buddy go look at the car, it checks out, and i figure i'll throw a little $ at it, and see where it goes. out of nowhere, a guy with zero feed back and three bids to his history, has driven up the price past my budget. i e-mail the owner and voice my concern, and he he-haws around the issue. i then call my buddy back, he makes a few phone calls, and finds out the guy is a car salesman from the area with a dubious past.
now, i know this sounds like sour grapes, and this guy could be on the up and up, but the bids came at a strange time, stalled for days, still plenty of time left on the auction, so it's not really a snipe. this guy could be on the up & up, but it's all falling together in a weird way. he e-mailed back asking if i was still interested, i told him yes, but not at the current price. so i'm out and looking at other stuff...
just venting....
cessnarob Feb 13th, 09, 12:14 PM Bill this is crooked but I hear of people having friends place bids on new accounts to do nothing more but to drive up price for them..
Rich-L79 Feb 13th, 09, 12:15 PM I'd bet money those were shill bids. Ebay really needs to get a handle on controlling that practice.
grandsport Feb 13th, 09, 12:17 PM A car salesman with a dubious past.l:)My past is somewhat dubious, but it has nothing to do with my selling ability.
Dean Feb 13th, 09, 12:23 PM Happens all the time, I'm sure.

1BLACKHARLEY Feb 13th, 09, 12:40 PM check it out.....
"Bill, Thanks again for your time. It scares me a little to find out who this bidder is with little feedback! I hope this guy isn't joking around or isn't going to pay. Bill, if the current buyer whomever doesnt take this seriously do you want me to contact you after the auction is over and what is the most your budget can afford at this moment?"
Rich-L79 Feb 13th, 09, 12:48 PM Give him a ridiculously lowball offer. He already knows what your max bid was so your lowball offer can show that he could have sold it at the price had he not jacked you around.
Highway Star Feb 13th, 09, 12:48 PM Wait untilo the auction is over, THEN lowball him.
I saw this earlier today. I guess it might be a little too much or maybe too far away but cool nonetheless. http://www.carsonline-ads.com/colsite/col?use=UC3_ViewPosting&cmd=showPosting&postingID=31541

That is the other side of shill bidding, they outbid everyone then decide if they want to sell at the highest legitmate bid, if so they send a second chance offer. Some of them are really cute and do this seconds after the auction ends.

pdvanocudadave Feb 13th, 09, 3:08 PM You will see it on Ebay again in a few weeks and he will be saying something about a dead beat bidder.
Chris R Feb 13th, 09, 10:24 PM If he really wants to consider selling it to you. Give him the price you had in mind and thats it. Im thinking he will turn you down though, thats how these guys work.
68KMENO Feb 14th, 09, 10:17 AM I'd write him a letter telling him ........... I hope his buddy's check clears ! l:)
he had a legit sale .......... now he's got nothing !!! wish him well depositing it in the bank ;)
P.S. tell him you wouldn't buy it if it was the LAST car on earth ....... as you don't deal with FLAKE'S !!
