I know this question gets asked alot, but here it goes. I know what to ask for a bare housing and a I know what to ask for a 1970 373 posi..but...
what about a 1969 273 Eaton posi rear? pulled out of running car, no leaks, not rusty no pits. The carrier and gears look to be good as far as you can tell from a visual inspection. The reason I am not sure of value is basically what kind of demand is there for 273 posi? Any input would be great

Jeff, unless some is drag racing a 2.73 posi does have lot of appeal. I'd ask $600-700 for it to move it out.

I agree it does have a lot of appeal. I am putting one together with 3:31's so I can do some highway driving. By time I am done I will probably have around 1800 in mine. I would have gladly paid 6 or 7 hundred for one bolt in ready.

12 Bolt's still a 12 Bolt regardless of 2.73 gears. That's a bolt in deal very well worth the money. You can always upgrade gears- as we always do- later.
For now, that's a good deal.

I'd not go over $300 on a working 2-series unit and sometimes if I can swing an even better deal.
After you throw in a new Posi for $400 or there about, new gears $150 minimum, a basic rebuild kit for $100
300+400+150+100 =$950 plus labor
well on your way to a whole-new unit like 3-4 companies offer
I got a new posi off C-L for $300 with the rebuild kit, daughter #1 bought me the gears for Army Retirement plus a few back BD presents, and 'Doc' TC member FRYNTYR did the install....so my existing 12-bolt 2.56 posi got replaced at bargain prices!

I would stick on it E -Bay or CL. IMO there is a market for 2.73 posi setups! Set a high reserve ($1500) to see what it brings. Then relist if necessary.

Should just be able to use a ring gear spacer to run any 3 series gear.
