just was wondering if I am going to have to pull my motor to install and align my scattershield? will I be able to change the dowel pins if it turns out I need offset dowels etc? thanks guys

I've done it. No biggy, much easy out of the car though.

The only stock dowels we couldn't remove were in a 1962 Impala with a 409. We tried everything but, we couldn't remove the passenger side stock dowel. For fear of ruining the block, we removed the engine to do the job

First do your indicator reading and see if your bellhousing needs the offset dowels. If you have a stubborn dowel that you can't remove, then pull the engine.

thanks guys, sorry one more question! if the bellhousing is within tolerances and I don't need offset dowels will the stock ones be long enough to enage the lakewood?

You "may" need longer dowels. I know I did because of the thickness of the block plate and the scatter shield. I would just measure the dowel sticking out, then measure the thickness of the scattershield and you will know. It can be tricky to get dowels out with the engine in the car but I use a long 1/4" piece of piano wire cut to the right length and wack it from the front of the engine.

It sounds like you already have the scattershield. I tried a McCleod, I had to beat the foot well to get clearance. the McCleod turned out to be junk, I sent it back and got the Quicktime you can see in my sig. That one went in easy, and I was able to pound my footwell back out.

thanks guys....funny, first time I've heard anything negative about the Mcleod. Unfortunately, I have heard plenty of issues with the Lakewood's which I now own. I'm thinking it might just be best to pull the engine...just getting tired of the unexpected costs that keep popping up everytime I go to tackle anything haha. "shelly"-is quite an expensive mistress.
