hello this should be fun. I have a 454 with and sightly larger than rv cam headers stock high rise
and a tuned q-jet 750 and electronic dis.
The problem i face is when I'm going wot from a dead stop when i get a stumble at 4700rpm or so
to rule out valce float I can put th350 in 1st and do the 3500-6500 blast no problem yes thats 6500 this baby likes the rpms then the stumble returns as i start the 2nd gear run. I figured it must be fuel i'm runnig a stock pump...
In a intresting side note ihad a 350 in the same car same problem just advaced the timing till the stumble went away timing was way out to lunch but no ping and no overheating. changed the dis, to rule it out. What does the above soung like.
The bottem end is just insane and it will blast clean up to 6000rpms or so ...But can't get the two to come together GRRR!!

Have you traced the fuel line from the tank? Could be a kink in the line or a restriction of some kind - considering you had the same problem with a different engine and distributor.
Can you put a fuel pressure gauge on it that you could see while driving it? Personally I wouldn't bring one inside the passenger compartment, but htere's got to be a relatively easy way to rig one up...

fuel seems good it can suppliy enough at a steady
4000rpm it won't drain the fuel bowl then it shouldn't have a lck of fuel. The timing issue is real funny on this car could I be looking at a bad ground? This problem first surfaced around the time I had the 350 rebuilt the 454 is using the same alt ground should i run a gound strap for the motor. Just a thought on why the dis might be the problem.

I'd check float level, and what jet's are you useing? And timing might do it to.

I'm in Weyburn - but I grew up in southeastern BC. Been here almost 11 years now - with a 15 year stint in AB before coming here. If I live long enough, I'll retire in Newfoundland...

A ground strap to the motor is good idea regardless, but I doubt that's the problem. If you're running an HEI, make sure the weights aren't sticking - common problem with GM HEI's.

I still suspect fuel (but I've been wrong before). Pumping enough to maintain full fuel bowls at 4000 RPM in neutral is quite a bit different than WOT under load.

What is your base and total timing? Do you have the HEI hooked up to a 12 volt source or the original points resistor wire?
