Hi Everyone, I have a problem. I have a 69 Malibu that I am restoring. I bought it from a guy and he has a cowl hood and a SS hood but no Malibu hood. Would I be wrong in converting it to an SS or get a Malibu hood and leave it as is. Thanks Dave

My el Camino has an SS hood on it, I bought it that way. I like it. More interesting than a flat hood, for sure.
It's your car, so you cannot be "wrong" no matter what you decide to do.

Unless you are going for some kind of judging or plan to make the car exactly original (no changes to brakes or radio, suspension, etc) then you CAN change it any way you like. Many people put SS parts on their Malibus, in fact it's probably more common to see Malibus with SS stripes than not!

Dan, Thanks for your reply. I haven't decided what i'm going to do yet but i'm leaning towards the SS side. Thanks Dave

Blue 71,Thanks for your advise. Some SS parts like the emblems seem to be easier to buy as a set rather then the Malibu. I'm leaning toward the SS side, but not sure yet. Thanks Dave

My son has a 68 300 and we're putting an SS hood on it. He's wanted one for a long time, and about a year ago a guy gave us a so-so SS hood. So we're going to do some very minor repairs to it and weld up a couple of VERY SMALL rust spots, paint it and put it on his car.
For Christmas 2yrs ago I bought an Eaton posi unit for the 10bolt, and we've rounded up everything needed to replace the PG tranny with a Muncie.
So, I'd say put the SS hood on it and go!

Of course, who cares it`s your ride. It`s not like its a Barrett-Jackson car or something. Clone the heck out of it. I have a 71 chevelle that I`m putting all the SS stuff on it even a 12bolt posi. and a 454. I don`t plan on advertising it as a true SS, just like the looks of them . Won`t be selling it anyway. Just make it a cool hot rod and enjoy it. That`s what most everyone else does anyway. Good luck

too bad your not close, Id trade you a flat hood for your SS hood.
Kidding. I think the SS hood is alot nicer. I ended up with a fiberglass cowl hood on my 68elcamino, only because thats all I could find local. jim

I would have to agree with everyone else, as long as you dont try to pass it off to a buyer as a true SS its no big deal. The SS hood looks alot tougher imo.

David, I have a 69 Malibu with a SS hood on it. It came that way when I bought it, looks better than the flat hood in my opinion but I'm keeping the Malibu emblems on it. It's your car so I say do it however you like it the most.

Build it with the options you would have ordered it with.
If I had a time machine to go buy a new 60's muscle car, it wouldn't be some plain-jane malibu.

I am 100% for clone SS restorations, heck even use a non-396 bigblock.
Just don't try and defraud some poor sap buyer passing it off as a "real SS-396" with a 6cyl vin and a 454.

David,

It's your car, as long as you're not trying to deceive any potential buyer, then do whatever you want with it...and enjoy it.

I've got a Malibu......I'm gonna put some SS badges on just to tick off the traditionalists I run across on the street :D

I like to keep them the way they were supposed to be. I have a 75 Firebird Esprit with a vinyl roof. It attracts more attention at the car shows than T/A's and Formulas. The reason is that most of the Esprits were cut up to restore T/A's and Formulas. You just don't see the Esprits around much less with a vinyl roof!
The malibu is the same. So many have been chopped up for, or turned into, SS's you never see the good old malibus anymore. I have a 64SS but would love to find a 64 bare bones 300 in good shape. I've never seen one but I've seen hundreds of SS's.
It was born a Malibu...let it remain one!

I would put the SS hood on it, just for the look.
Anyone out have the correct part numbers for 1968 chevelle front and rear bumper guards?
Any help would be appreciated.
