It dies if i hit the gas hard, if i bring the rpms up slow it will keep running . i can restart
and it will fire up .i had to mess with the idle srew and set the transfer slot like i was told in the info. posted i think that helped getting it to idle ,but now i think i have a new fight .could it be timming or carb tuning
I don'tknow much about tuning a holley so any help
please by the way what would be a good RPM to idle at and what should the timming be at
36deg total???? tongue.gif

Glad you solved your idling problem.I would check your initial timing with vaccum advance unplugged and capped, set your initial to around 16* and total around 36*, after you have this set you may have to limit your vaccum advance to around 10* under part throttle, there are kits to limit this or you could make your own. graemlins/waving.gif

your at the point where timming needs to be done next............i agree with 16 initial and 36 total.........this is a very good starting point.........as far as the vacuum advance canister goes you will find most of them if not all have the rate stamped on them........i just so happen to find a factory canister with 10 stamped on it at the end of the numbers that was listed on it. and i checked it to see for sure and yes it was 10 degrees......

i found it to work best on full vacuum so you have the extra timming built in at idle to help keep the engine cool and help smooth out the idle...........

once that it complete........it sounds like then you will need to work on the squirters(accelerator pump) .........you are flinging the carb wide open creating a very lean mixture and you dont have enough fuel to cover the dead spot.need to adjust the cam or get a bigger number size squirter like maybe a 31 or so ..........good luck keep us posted

JUST GOT IN AND IT LOOKS LIKE 16 DEG. 36 TOTAL DID THE TRICK!!!!! NOW IT STARTS UP AND IDLES
IT SEAMS TO ME THAT ITS IDLEING A LITTLE HIGH
NOT CRAZY HIGH RPMS BUT A LITTLE HIGH I HAVEN'T HOOK THE HEI VAC LINE YET BUT I WILL SEE HOW
THAT HELPS , AS FAR AS WHAT YOUR SAYING ABOUT THE CARB ITS LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT ON . I WILL PLAY WITH THE TIMMING A BIT MORE THAN MOVE OVER TO THE CARB.
IT TIME TO START WITH THE HOLLEY ?'S MAYBE LATER THIS WEEK.BUT ITS GOT TO BE IN THE CARB .NOW THAT I GOT THE TIMMING BETTERR IT DOSE NOT DIE AT ALL!!BUT THERE IS A FLAT SPOT IF I HIT IT HARD SO ANY TUNING TIPS WILL HELP. WELL IM RUNNING NO MUFFLERS AND ITS HARD TO TELL IF ITS ILDLING HIGH OR THE OPEN HEADERS MAKE IT SOUND THAT WAY .OFF TO SUMMIT TO GET THEM TURBO'S :D smile.gif :D smile.gif
