I’m the Facilities Director at aK-5 School and will be donating my time and tools for a summer camp for 5th graders come June. The camp will be geared toward light welding and metal fabrication.. The class is 5 days long with 15 kids and I have about a $500.00 budget for materials (I have another budget for safety protection) . I would like a to come up with a variety of projects that are relatively easy but also gives the kids a chance to use the tools or see the tools in use. I own, 2 Mig welders,Tig welder, plasma cutter, oxy set, band saw, benders, drill press, English wheel and the usual tools that exist in an ordinary shop/garage. I would love to use as many of these tools as possible (with limited use of course) and am looking for creative project ideas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Have them make some nice metal shop dust pans for there fathers one day. Not to mention if it is early June, they can do it as a fathers day gift personally made.
They can cut the metal out, bend it, weld it.........

A simple two bend Tool box with weld in sides and a one bend lid. A cut to length welded in metal piano hinge makes an excellent inside hinge. You can also use pipe and round bar for hinges in a pinch. A piece of round bar with two equal 90 bends welded on the lid makes an excellent handle. Layout and machine set up would knock the parts out for each box pretty quick. Then throw them each a blue print for student assembly. If your good with a plasma cutter you can cut parts to make it a locking tool box. Skys the limit, paint, trays etc... If my son made me one I'd display it beaming with pride:)
