The fibrous wire/string that connects between the "PRND21" indicator and the steering column has broken. I would like to know of any fixes for this hopefully without having to tear the dash apart.
Thanks,
Sam

How about a solderless connector for telephone wire? just remove the plastic covering and crimp only a small area.

My problem is not so much what to replace the fibrous wire with (the previous post is a good idea), but rather how to get access to it easily.
Thanks,
Sam

Remove the plastic (four screws) under the column and remove the two nuts for the steering column so that it drops to the seat. This should give you plenty of room. This is what I had to do to crimp on a new sta-con (terminal).

good luck the cable length is a preset amount and as the shaft moves it moves the needle assembly arm. I Have one that is broken and the way I have heard it is replace it if you wish it to work as new!
The fix is drop the steering and take out the bezel and open the cluster.
