: The Pep Boys "SCORE" PICS inside!
70chevelle406 Feb 5th, 09, 6:51 PM So I go to a local Pep Boys here in San Diego to pick up some Auto Meter gauges, and I happen to see a display wall with Edelbrock intakes mounted on the wall. So I just took a gander at the 2 main intakes which happened to be both SBC's. There is the Air Gap intake and a performer. I currently am running the performer on my 70 and I pointed that out to my wife. She then asked me, "Why didn't you buy the Air Gap?; it's cheaper!" I said what?
Pep Boys had the the A/G tagged $104.90 so I tried to buy it. Knowing they wouldn't have it in stock I was willing to wait for it to be shipped. Well according to Pep Boys special orders do not apply to sale items, and if they ordered it I would have to pay the order prce of $300.95. I called the manager and we went back and forth and finally I left the store not ordering the A/G, but not before I snapped a few photos of the price tag, and intake.
I called back 2 days later and spoke with the manager telling him of my situation and I wanted this to be resolved otherwise I would report them to Weights and Measures. He tells me he'll find out what he can do and called me back in an hour saying that he could not honor the sale price but he could give me the at cost price of $138. Without any hesitation I went down there to order my A/G for $150

It's just funny how people can/will jerk you around if you are not willing to stand up for yourself.

Summit sells it for $218.95. $300 would have been a bit pricy . $150 is a real nice deal! Sweet photo evidence. Did you check the price when you went back two days later? I bet they changed the price quicker than they could dial corporate and say "HELP!".

No they just pulled the sticker when I went to pick it up. I also offered to buy the display and they rejected it saying it wasn't their's to sell.
sg5492 Feb 5th, 09, 11:04 PM Good score
FerrariTruck Feb 5th, 09, 11:07 PM score, wait $144... i think:confused:
rchevellea Feb 6th, 09, 1:18 AM super nice score...your gonna love that intake!!!!1
SS396ELKY Feb 6th, 09, 2:19 AM I scored a brand new one off of Craig's list for $150, plus it include gaskets and bowtie manifold bolts. I'm not bragging but it was a heck of a deal. Oh and I met the guy at Pep Boyz to complete the sale. :D
rianbechtold Feb 6th, 09, 4:06 AM I'd report them. Technically, you got ripped off. That is illegal what they did and I guarantee you there are many more fallacies in the store prices:yes:
Cameano Feb 6th, 09, 10:27 AM They should've honored the tag price for you and removed it. I saw a minimum of 10 signs proclaiming the price of a cordless LED worklight at Sears to be $16.99 in December, normally $38.99. I picked one up and went to the register, where it rang up at normal price. The kid says it had been on sale the previous week, but was not anymore. I walked back to the aisle where the lights were, and he shakes his head and starts pulling all the sale cards down. This was 6:30pm now, they'd been up all day and nobody had bought one. I said "wow, good price, I should've bought two...". The kid sighed, told me to grab another if I wanted while he wasn't looking. :D  The manager wasn't pleased, but I'm sure he got over it. ;)
Chevelle505cid Feb 6th, 09, 11:10 AM They did'nt have any Super Victors for a BBC Tall deck with 4500 flange did they? LOL! Good find. Congrats!

Then whose display is it? AUTOZONE?
Good deal and I'm glad you stood up to them. Now, maybe their employees will pay attention to what they are doing.

It's edelbrock's display, usually it belongs to them. When I worked at Kragen's I found this out. Someone broke a edelbrock carb off the display so we put a holley in it's place; the district manager freaked and made us take it down.

Yeah it was Edelbrock's display. It even had the words "FOR DISPLAY USE ONLY" etched in the intake. I probably could have got it cheaper but I wasn't going to be much more of a jerk since the manager was willing to work with me and wasn't a total scumbag. It was pretty funny though when I was paying for the intake. The idiot sales clerk and the previous manager who first told me NO on the intake, they were watching me at the register and they had a look of disgust as if I was the bad guy. Oh well, I guess I showed them. Another funny thing is, I am a driver for UPS and I sometimes even deliver to this specific Pep Boys.
Brian_d Feb 6th, 09, 2:22 PM Don't feel bad. They messed up & have to honor the price posted! Several years ago Sears ran an ad that had Jensen 16", 3 way home speakers on sale for $99 - for the pair! I think they were originally $300. I got a raincheck at the local sears, made a few phone calles & found another store had them. When I got there, the salesman said he couldn't sell them to me at that price. I asked to see the manager: a few minutes later the salesman came back & said the manager could not honor another Sears store's raincheck. I again asked to see the manager. The salesman came back afew minutes later & said that the manager had said "ok".

Typical game of "maybe he'll go away". I make a game out of such deals. I'd hang there all day, even if I didn't really want the item. I absolutley HATE being sucked into a store like that. 9 times out of 10, they'll sell it to me just to get me out of the store. Hey!! I didn't put the sign up...

I definitely would have made a bigger stink if the part was in stock.
I'm sure they would of had no problem selling me one for the tag price if they had it, but the fact that it had to be special ordered just amazingly shot up $200 in price.
Bowtie-72 Feb 6th, 09, 4:04 PM I bought one each of the GM Perf valve coversoff a display. The black 502 style and the raised letter aluminum pro stock style ones. About 2 weeks later, I find the matching ones for each and gave them $50 for the pair-same place. The black ones got offed, the pro stock ones got traded for a Craftsman 40" professional toolbox.
team5150 Feb 6th, 09, 8:37 PM My wife and I were going to go on a 7 day Mexican cruise on a "FUN" ship;). We wanted a balcony room so we clicked on web site for the room and it displayed a room that was a huge suite.
I booked with an AmEx card and took screen shots of the reservations and the payment then called the and ask them to positively confirm that this was the room we were going to be in. The girl said "Oh no, that's just representative of the rooms on the ship".:noway:
I ask her why it had our room number on it and she couldn't tell me so I asked for the supervisor. She tried the same line and said they couldn't possibly give us a $5000 room for the $1850 price we paid ! Oh yea !
One call to AmEx and they backed down IMMEDIATELY.:D
We ended up with one of four penthouse suites on the ship !:hurray:
