I have a TH-400 in my '67 Malibu with a 32-tooth output spine. I have heard from some people that 32-tooth splines won't work and they rattle very bad. Others say it will work. I was told it should be a 27-tooth output spline. I have a 396 and a 12-bolt. Will it work without problems?
thanks a bunch!

Turbo 400 transmissions came with larger output shafts than any of the earlier transmissions. Later 4-speeds went to the large, T400 size. All Potatoglide, T350, T200, T700, use the smaller shaft.
One variant of the T400 is the T375, a light duty version. It used the smaller output shaft, but was only available (usually in station wagons) for a couple of years. ('71-72, maybe) Looks like a T400, but has "375" cast into the underside of the tailshaft housing.
I've never counted the splines, but 32 sounds right.
