: 1965 Tunnel hump
wendon65 Feb 5th, 09, 4:42 PM I posted this in interiors, but did not get any feed back. I am hoping this might be the right forum.
Does anyone have Ideas and pictures of a Tunnel hump for a 65 Chevelle. My car had a Richmond 6 speed installed and The linkage is rubbing. The installer did not take out enough of the tunnel. I am replacing the carpet and want to modify the Tunnel. Most of the forums have this for 68's and higher. My tunnel is different. I will be re-installing the center console, even though it sets back 3 inches. confused, I want to do a nice job even if you cannot see it.
wendon65 Feb 6th, 09, 2:46 PM Someone has to have modified the hump on a 65.
A picture would be worth a ton of knowledge.
Bryan59EC Feb 6th, 09, 3:07 PM I have a couple of pics of a modified tunnel for a Keisler 5-spd.
In my 66 Elky
Perhaps I can post 'em when I get home

wendon65 Feb 6th, 09, 8:34 PM Brian,
What it looks like to me is you purchased an original tunnel hump and moved it to the new location for the transmission. Then made up a patch for the old hole. I like that. Nice work.
Thank you
The link in my signature block has pictures of the tunnel surgery I did on my '66. The hump was butchered pretty good to start, but I still managed to reuse a good chunk of it --- sheet metal patches bent on my knee formed the rest. I plan to dress the welds with some plastic filler when I get around to working on the interior.

Actually, the way this went down was--
I borrowed my neighbor's M-20 to locate the right spot for the hole oin the floor.
Then I bought the hump and screwed it in place. (it only fits where it is supposed to fit)
Bought the TKO and did the rest of the trimming----most of which was probably not all that necessary.
Put the motor/trans and body on another frame to finish the floor welding.
(not me---my body shop guy---I like him---he needs another beer)
While the floor was being worked on---the frame was sandblasted -- and later in the same day---painted
We did quite a bit more work on the car (paint and undercoat the bottom) while I put the painted frame together.

the search function can be a great aid. tom
wendon65 Feb 7th, 09, 12:09 PM Tom,
That is great stuff! Sometimes you need to see something to get an idea where to start.
Other times you can get creative on your own. Not the case with me this time. I needed pictures. If you are subscribed for e-mail notification, I will post pictures. I will be working on it this week. Spring is coming! All this for a new carpet, but I need it right even though it will be covered.
Thank you everyone who posted help.
wendon65 Feb 12th, 09, 6:06 PM I have been going over this project for over a week now and I am attempting to attach a link that will show where I am at. It includes some pictures from today.
