I want to switch from my windshield antenna to something with better reception. Apparantly a prior owner had the original windshield replaced & was too cheap to purchase a windshield iwth the built in antenna. He installed an aftermarket windshield antenna that looks like wire & scotch tape graemlins/clonk.gif . I get all kinds of interference/noise & get no reception at all :mad: . I don't want to replace my windshield & all of the associated parts/cables. I've seen these stick on antennas that have adjustable lengths up to 54" that install high up on the windshield behind the rear view mirror that have built in amplifiers. Anyone have any experience switching from a windshield antenna? I don't want to waste my money on something that doesn't work and I dint want to drill my fender.

On their best days, the windshield antenna's sucked, put a fender mount on and it will be a much better unit. Someone told me years ago that the antenna needed to be at least above the car to work the best.

I beg to differ. Windshield antenna in dads 70SS works wonderfully. Also the previous owner hooked up a regular antenna and just shoved it under the dash. It worked well, but I repaired the windshield antenna and hooked it up. No problems at all and its been almost a year.
