Just to start out I love this web site and i am so happy i got a chevelle. Well i havn't got the car yet but i will be getting it here sometime this month. I have to go pick it up thats all. But anyway. This car has a 454 and with a T400 tranny. It has a slap shifter in it. And i know some stuff about it but i don't know everything. i havn't ran the car yet so i don't know everything yet. What i was wondering was. Do you have to put the car in first to start it out or can you put it into drive and will it still shift up through the gears. If anyone can tell me how it works. it would be a big help to me.

Unless it has a manual valve body you should be able to the shifter in drive and let the transmission shift on its own. The transmission won't work any different by just changing shifters.
