1970 LS5 manuel m22 with a/c,all original. Just completed a dash change. Ran original wiring harness to proper locations. Has guage package. Now I have no fire at plugs. Engine spins over just fine but will not start. I have inspected clutch switch and all is correct. How can I tell if I am getting fire to coil? Where should I start to look and what is the proper sequence I should attempt to diagnose? Everything works as supposed to (lights, guages, etc.).

Make sure that you have voltage to the + side of the coil when the ignition is on. If you do check the points to see if they are opening when cranking. If you do not have voltage to the coil then check fuse for ignition to see if it is blown also check for the wire coming from box to cil to see if it is broken. hope it helps

Did it run before gauges were installed? If so I would suspect the tach wire. Remove it and see if it starts.

Yes it did run before. Everything was good. I checked for power at coil. I do have power to coil. I have positive power on both sides of coil. Is this correct? I thought there was a negative side and a positive side. I will disconnect the tachometer and try to start. What I have found is the black wire from bottom of distributor goes nowhere. It is loose. This could be my problem. Where does it attach? I can find nothing in by build manuel.

O.K. Removed tach wire and installed black wire from underneath distributor to the post it came from. This now gave me a positive on one side and negative on the other. Still no start! Could the wire underneath distributor go to positive? This is getting old! I am worried about burning coil up if I make mistake.

The - side of the coil should go to the distributor the + side should be 12 v. make sure the points are opening and closing and see if you have spark from coil wire while cranking.(do not hold coil wire)
Make sure you have 12 volts at the coil's + terminal while cranking the engine not just with the key in the "run" position.
