is there any way to tell if the transmission is bad with out pulling it?

Saginaw 4-speed

I'm still driving with it. it still shifts, but I'm getting alot of vibration and I was wondering if one of the bearings is going. I've read were alot of people have had troble with the front bearing going bad.

thanks

I had a saginaw in my Nova for a couple of years. I think the input shaft bearing was bad but it didn't cause a vibration. The input shaft felt real loose and sloppy. It made a "rumbling" noise when the car was idleing in neutral. If you pushed in the clutch the noise stopped. I thought it was a bad throw-out bearing, but changed it and a clutch and still had the noise. Have you checked ujoints, motor mounts, or maybe a bent driveshaft? My busted saginaw's remains are still in the garage. Howard
