I have a '71 Malibu that has a stud under the hood that fits into a locking mechanism and keeps the hood closed. This stud should have a spring around it to provide support and tension to pop the hood. I am missing that spring. Can anyone tell me the proper term for the stud and spring, so that I'll know what to ask for when I call the salvage yard? Thanks.

I'm not sure of the name. Does it have four bolts that hold it on? I believe I have that piece in a box in the garage but it might be for a '70.

Assembly manual calls it a "catch assembly".

The stud is called "bolt-hood lock". The spring is listed as "spring".

Will,
I have actually heard it referred to as a "pop up" spring. Makes sense, thats what it does.

I have heard it refered to as the "hood dick and spring".That might get the attention of the parts counter girl.

Well, bordert, that certainly is what it looks like. I get many comments from my friends whenever they ask me to pop the hood. Most are jokes that start off with "You know you have a manly car when it has..."
