Ok guys,
I'm a newbie at this so, bare with me. I own a '71 chevell malibu SS (350 sb). I bought it back in april '03.

The problem:
Yesturday, when i started the car, the accelerator pedal wouldn't budge. I could press it up with my toe or down with my heel but the pedal itself would not push down like normal. I had just driven the car about an hour before. I was on my way to work and couldn't afford to be late. Out of fustration, I stomped the pedal (I know I know). Doing so got me down the street but now I don't feel the normal amount of resistance I'm use to and since then, the car has backfired on me twice and simply isn't running the same (hesitates when I try to stomp the gas).
The car started up for me this morning but would cut off as soon as I hit the gas (while in park). I took it to my mechaninc last night who drove the car, noticed the hesitation but couldn't id the problem w/out looking at it closer. He saw no problem with the choke or carbuerator but then again, I just got the car from him about 3wks ago...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I see how you guys treat the new booties! Guess I gotta earn some stripes before I can get some help :-|

Well, I've figured out that when I stomped the accelerator, I ended up snapping the cam/choke connector rod.

Anyone know how difficult ($) this is to fix?
The carb is an edelbrock 750.

Thanks in advance! graemlins/clonk.gif

Relax. If you haven't noticed, the troubleshooting forum get's very little traffic. I don't even know why we have it. This post could have gone into the engine forum which has much more traffic.

Check Edelbrock's site and see if they sell that part as a replacement. I've never had to buy linkage parts so I don't even know if they sell the parts seperatly like that. There maybe someone around with an old Edelbrock that'll give you the part too.

PS: Don't brute force stuff. smile.gif A gas pedal is very simple. You can follow the cable up to the carb and see what was making it hang up and probably avoided this whole mess.

Tim.
