I have a 65 Chevelle I am finishing and have ran into yet another problem. When I got the car it already had a 80 thru 85 4 bolt main 350 engine and TH 350 combo in the car. While trouble shooting electrical problems I found that the timing mark on the dampner that is installed on the car hits the timing light at about the 11 Oclock position while the timing cover pointer is at the normal 2 oclock position which means my marks are about 90 degrees off.
I have tried to get the information from two local chevy dealers about where the mark should be and what is the correct dampner for this engine but all I have gotten so far is blank looks (being very kind here).
The casting number on the block identifies it as a 350 ci 4 bolt main crate engine made in Mexico for 80 thru 85 use with the dipstick on the passanger side of the block. Casting number is 10063038 and it indicates being made in 1992.
Before I go out and buy another balancer I want to make sure the one I buy is the right one. I have a brand new 2 piece timing cover already and have to purchase a new pan as someone put an aluminum pan made for earlier blocks on the car and you cannot get the dipstick assembly in the block as the pan stops it.
If anyone out there can point me in the right direction I will be very grateful. This is my first restoration since the early 80's and I am quite rusty on all the latest but learning quickly as I just finished all electrical problems and a new trunk floor pan and all rear body brackets and gas tank brackets.
Going broke fast and still miles to go before I'm satisfied.
Help Someone Please.
