Picked one up this week. Hoping to take it to the range tomorrow, if not it'll be next week. Anyone else here have this rifle? Happy with it?

I googled it - looks pretty rugged to me. What was the price range you got it for? Saw one at about $550..... scratched up a bit.

I'd be interested in how you like it.

It wasn't cheap.

Right now they are selling for between $600 and $850. I've seen them go for even more. I had planned to buy one a year ago or so but got involved with other things and didn't do it. They were selling for like $400 then. Now there's lots of paranoia out there (real or imagined) at what the new administraton will do with gun legislation. So, rather than continue to wait and risk getting one of the AWB type AKs, I took the plunge now.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely getting one (or two) of those. My AK came with two 30 round banana clips, but that drum looks awesome. I have one for my AR-15 that holds 100 rounds.

from what I read, get the chinese or bulgarian wind ups. you just pop the back, drop in the ammo, wind up and away you go. the romy drums you have to load 1 at a time. jim

I thought WASR was a single stack, but it seems like the new ones are double stack then, right...? Anyway, I have a Romanian SAR-1 from Century Arms, which is probably similar to what you have. It does shoot good and I have yet to see it malfunction, but I'm still a little bit worried about the internal parts. The bolt carrier is very roughly machined, and had a sharp edge on the tang that hits the hammer. This resulted in a badly peened hammer after about 1000 rounds. I have filed and honed the tang so I guess I have to give it another 1000 rounds before I post a final report, but the way it was made just didn't look right.

It also had a bad trigger slap due to a crappy disconnector, but it was easy to fix after I found instructions for how to do it (http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/slapfix.htm). This problem seems to be isolated to Century's rifles, and I have noticed that their later models have a Tapco G2 trigger so this might not be an issue on newer rifles.

Yeah, it's a double stack. I think the switch was made from single stack after the AWB expired. The Tapco G2 supposedly eliminates the trigger slap experienced with previous units.

I believe they just opened up the magwell so a double stack will fit, if you have a older postban wasr10 you can do this with a dremel. jim

I have one of these weapons. Expect a bigger kick than you AR :) . Perhaps the weight of a drum full of ammo will reduce the kick.

The fit and finish of the wasr is pretty rugged but easy to cleanup.

I shot one in Virginia last months and had a ball with it. I think that was what finally pushed me to get one.

Same here. wasr 10 with underfold stock. works great just make sure to clean it good. I found alot of metal shavings in it from the conv to double stack.

Yeah, I've found a little what I believe to be cosmoline here and there. It is thick, almost like axle grease. I plan to wipe it down really good before taking it to the range.

It does, and so does the fix I linked to in my previous post. According to this web site, Century used a full-auto style disconnector instead of the semi-auto type used by Tapco. It has a totally unnecessary piece of steel sticking out in the back, and it hits the top of the trigger every time you fire the rifle. The fix was easy, but sending out a rifle with the horible trigger slap I had in mine is just wrong. I have had bad luck with other Century products as well and I'm not the only one, so it seems like they just don't know what they're doing. I'm definitely not buying any more guns from them.

this isnt meant to bash any vendors, but if you go to most gun forums "drunken monkeys" and century usually mean the same thing. jim

I've heard both OK and not so OK things about Century. I guess it is like anything else. The research I've done indicates most guys believe Century products to be a little rough around the edges, yet mostly reasonable for the cost, and they've improved some over time. I bought an AK to beat on. My AR cost 3X what the AK did, but the quality isn't even close. Ammo for the AR costs roughly double than that for the AK. I like them both but for different reasons.

Cabela's has 7.62 x 39mm in stock again finally, for those interested.
