i have this problem in my velle.it wants to start when ever it feels like it, its almost like its lazy. when i try to crank it over it doesnt even want to try. i can turn my lights on and my radio on and they all work, the battery is not dead either, its a brand new one. i had thought it was my tach draining my battery, but thats not the case. and when i get it running (after a little bit of trying) it will run good
but if i have to shut it off and try to start it up again, even like 2min after i shut it off it wont start back up.

a friend told me that my points might be closed shut, but i havnt checked them yet.

any other suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Something to check may be the ground strap from the engine to the chassis. If there is not one, or if the terminal ends are corroded, this drop in current to the starter motor can make it seem 'lazy' while all the other accessories work fine due to thier own seperate gounds. Good luck.

Mine does the same thing, at times. I've put 3 batteries in it, in the past month. Sorry, I can't help, just wanted to let you know that your not the only one out there with Maintenance problems. I hope you get some good info on here, so I can try the same things. I don't have a tach..what tach are you using?

wallace, i am running a 3 3/8" KMC tach thats about 20 years old. it was my dads when he had his velle but he got rid of it and kept the tach and guages, which are in mine now.

My Malibu had a problem getting a full 12 volts to the starter solenoid. I finally installed a remote solenoid to kick a full 12 volts to the starter solenoid. Haven't had a problem since.

Hello Dan SS396 68. What is the paint name and paint code that you have on your 68 SS Chevelle? I really like that color. Thats an original 68 chevelle color for that year isnt it? A turqoise color. Anyways its sharpe. I cant make up my mind yet between matador red or a blue or turqoise. Thanks, Mark graemlins/waving.gif

Bill If this fixes the car then there is another problem with the car. Ground straps between the engine and the chassis or the engine and the firewall are not needed to operate the car. They are installed on certain cars for noise suppresion. I don't have them. Chevy didn't put them in.
The starter's ground or return line is the negative cable screwed to the block. If that isn't any good, the car will seek ground through the small wire on the right inside fender and through the ground straps. Those are way too small to turn the starter and will burn.

Thanks ,paint code kk.Had it painted in 84-85 but about three shades darker. It has a diferent shade at night beter ;) I went this color because the door jams and all else easier to paint. And no other chevelle here that color.

I was considering red, black, that very light yellow, and maroon metalic, black in shade. Also you don't want the same color of same year as yours in your city or area.Good luck Mark a color is hard to chose from so many out there graemlins/waving.gif
